Frequently Asked Questions
What is Forensic Psychological Profiling?
Forensic Psychological Profiling is a subspeciality of psychology used by law enforcement to assist them in profiling and understanding the motives of criminals. This information helps them to determine a criminals motives and possibly their next target.
Can hypnosis help witnesses retrieve information?
Yes, hypnosis can assist witnesses in recovering suppressed memories. However, the hypnotheraptist providing this service should have experience and understanding of data collection from witnesses. It is important that they do not revictimize the victim in a session. It is also important that they do not plant thoughts by the structure of their questioning. Some states allow hypnosis into testimony; other states do not. If you are considering hypnosis it will be necessary for you to check with your state to see if any sessions are admissable in court.
Why do you offer mediation services as well?
We offer mediation services in conjunction with our other services, because we want to help people get closure in any way possible. Often after an offender has been caught it is necessary for the victim to sit down and talk with him in a controlled setting. It allows both parties the opportunity to move forward. Ecspecially if we have already done the profiling in the case we have a better idea about whether the victim and the perpetrator are suited for this process. Though, you do not necessarily have to be one of our previous clients for us to provide you with this service.
What kinds of classes do you offer?
We offer all kinds of classes to law enforcement, as well as community groups that range in subject matter from legal issues to mediating a domestic violence situation on site to profiling. We do not offer CEU at this time, but we are exploring the accrediting process. If your organization needs training contact us and we will customize something for you when possible.
Do you ever work with psychics?
We will work with almost anyone who is offering information on a current case. We cannot pay for any tips we recieve, therefore it is advisable to contact the police directly.
Will you work directly with families?
We have a number of services geared toward families, such as the mediation option. However, in criminal cases we prefer to work directly with the police. We are happy to talk to families initially, but we cannot discuss issues regarding on-going cases with them. We are also happy to contact law enforcement on their behalf after they have made the initial reporting of a crime.
